What is Goshin Martial Arts ?
We are a school of Goshinkan-Ryu Ju-Jitsu but first and foremost we are a Danger Awareness school, educating children and adults of the possible threats in life and how they can overcome them. Our schools throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan are dedicated to their communities, first to providing Danger Awareness to Educators and Parents, and secondly to providing professional martial arts instruction. Our schools teach the following martial arts: Karate; Judo; Ju-Jitsu; Aikido; Arnis and boxing. Take a look at all our programs for kids starting at 5 years old and seniors aged 65 and up.
Six Techniques Goshinkan-Ryu is composed of:
-
Striking
-
Blocking
-
Takedown or throw
-
Joint-locking
-
Neck restraint
-
Ground Defense
We teach all people and age groups how to protect themselves, their loved ones and their personal property.
Many of our programs are not martial art based so that anyone can learn these techniques. There is a large misunderstanding by most people that all Martial Arts are self-defense. We do teach several types of Martial Arts at our Schools but we also have programs for people that don’t want to put in the time necessary to become a skilled martial artist. All of our self-defense techniques have been tested in real life by: doorman; police; security; protection services people and many more professionals. If it does not work in a real fight then there is no use teaching it. All our self-defense teachings follow the 3 minute rule, if you can’t learn it in 3 minutes then it is of no use to your brain. Under stress you will remember only the simplest things. We rely on whole body movements that are natural and instinctive techniques.
Martial arts has evolved a great deal over the last 50 years and will continue to do so every single year. Most martial arts schools still teach outdated techniques or refuse to change their syllabus because they know how to teach it so well. As instructors, we are continually getting educated every single year and expanding our knowledge to help our students and communities.
